The Fall 2011 issue of M/I/S/C Magazine features the original illustrations from my Because The Kids Don’t Play collection, (“L’art Par Exemple”, page 94).

M/I/S/C/ is a quarterly magazine about business innovation and design thinking. It is distributed in over 28 countries around the world.

M/I/S/C/ is organized around four key concepts: Movement / Intuition / Structure / Complexity. Its purpose is to explore and identify new creative territories and new ways of thinking about art, design, strategic innovation, social innovation, behavioral economics and beyond.

I got word a few days ago that I had a package in the mail that I had to pick up, so as sick as I am today I made the trek out to my shipping spot to see what was up. The package said it was from NY so I wasn’t sure what to expect.

The paper said “Atrium” which meant nothing to me at first glance..

.. then I saw the KITH logo and realized the package was from the homey, Ronnie Fieg who just opened his own retail spot in Brooklyn yesterday.

The first thing I noticed was the box was personalized with my initials. I thought it was a dope personal touch and hoped it wasn’t just some other abbreviation I was missing out on. lol.

I opened the box to find an insert that read:

“When I began putting this together, I knew I wanted this to be a tight knit crew. KITH is a part of Kith and Kin, which means friends and family. It also means, to make known or become known in Old Scottish. I kept both in mind when assembling the team and coming up with the slogan, “Just Us”. My intention is to make KITH known as the place where you will get the highest quality goods in an intimate setting. These dog tags are for the people who continuously support this cause. This is KITH.”

I love the back story behind brands.

I opened the package to find 2 sets of wooden KITH Dog tags. The first set is a darker mahogany toned wood and the other is a lighter dual toned wood. One tag reads “Just Us” and has the KITH wordmark on either side while the other tag has the KITH logo and my initials engraved into it.

Both sets are really dope.

Today marks the 10 Year Anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. I consider this date to be the start of our ending and the spark that lit the flame that burned the infallible delusion of the power of the United States of America.

I got a message on my facebook today saying I was in a daily Toronto publication called, Metro. It’s one of the most read daily prints in the GTA and has saved my commutes from complete social destruction on infinite occasions.

So I picked 2 of them up and sure enough, there it was in it’s, albeit brief, glory.

Who woulda thought a piece on oral sex would be featured next to a supermodel advocating charitable causes?

Me. That’s who. :P

My piece is entitled Table for 2, Dinner for 1 and is a representation of the sensory overload of oral sex. It features a table top, mounted on the limbs of someone on all fours and is topped by 2 spread legs. In between the spread legs is a group of 7 roses. The entire piece is covered in swatches of the inside or naked side of the denim while the roses are a dark blue.

Oral sex in its simplest form consists of the server and the served. The role assumed by each participant is actually determined by their own sense of empowerment, submissiveness or participation, which is the beauty of both peoples involvement. At its finest, oral sex hits on every natural human sense: Sight, Smell, Taste, Touch and Sound. The sense of Style in my piece comes from it being constructed with parts of retail fashion mannequins and covered in the denim of the client, Seven for all Mankind. The sense of Intuition comes from the viewer, who never actually sees any sexual acts, but in understanding the title and concept, intuitively knows what is happening in the piece.

I want to send thanks to Lotus Leaf and Seven for all Mankind for providing me this opportunity and a shout out to all the other artists involved.

The piece will be on display at the Yorkdale store for another week. I will edit this post with photos in the near future.
