Los Angeles – Day 23

I got up at 7 this morning, pretty excited to be going home in a day and still just a little bit drunk from last night. My body had that aching and shaky feeling you get when you binge a little too much and don’t sleep it off or don’t hydrate yourself to a point where you can function semi-normally.
I showered and got dressed so I could finish packing before my older cousin’s girl, Joji, got to the house to pick me up. She said that she’d be here by 930 or 10, so I was expecting to catch her around 1030 with Filipino time and traffic all considered. Sure enough she got to the house at 935.
Feeling a little bit out of it, my cousin prepped some green tea and oatmeal to get us both back on track, but halfway through eating it all, my stomach got the best of me and I “got sick”. Enough about that though.
My cousin and I said our goodbyes and me and Joji headed home with the assistance of “Betty”, her mobile GPS thing from her phone.
We got a little disoriented, even with “Betty” helping us out, and we ended up having to turn around and get back on track towards their place. The ride was dope though. We talked relationships, closure, communication and kids. All of which I think we both had a lot to add in terms of conversation.
When we got to the house, she let me know that she actually still needed to go to work, so she left me in the house waiting until my cousin and their kids got home.
I sat around and finished Guitar Hero 3, hence the rock related Twitter updates, and waited for the kids. They got home right when I finished the game and we all played for a bit before ordering some Chinese.
I almost forgot that I wasn’t supposed to eat red meat until we started to look at the menu and I realized I couldn’t get the most popular Chinese dish to Hip-Hop heads: “The-up-jumps-the-boogie-to-the-boogie-to-the-broccoli-beef”. I opted for the black bean shrimp and the spicy kung pao chicken.
By the time our food arrived I was shaking and jittery from hunger. I hadn’t eaten since the oatmeal this morning and it was damn near game time by the time I had my first taste of any food or drink. I’ve had a lot of migraines and dizziness as a result of some bad eating habits in the past, so not having any food for that long had me feeling really, really fucked up. I ate as best I could and had a seat on the couch to try to enjoy the game.
I passed out during the 3rd quarter but cracked a heineken as soon as I got up to reenergize. My cousins homey and co-worker, Mel came by with his daughter, Marley, and his wife to catch the rest of the game, and soon my auntie and her husband showed up.
We finished the Lake Show and everyone left. Soon after, one of my nieces got picked up by her father, and me and my cousin just stayed up having some drinks, kicking it outside on the front step and shooting the shit. It was good to connect with him for a little bit. We came back into the house after a while of catching up and watched some TV with his girl before calling it quits at about 1230.
This is my last night in California. I miss my girl and my daughter, and many of my friends, but while I am definitely upset that I have to leave, something tells me that I’m more upset to have to return home.
