Los Angeles – Day 22

Thursday May 28, 2009

I woke up at 9 this morning a little bit antsy about finally going home in a couple of days. This whole week has been a race with time to get to see my girl and my daughter again. I love California, but I need to see my loved ones again.

I went to the kitchen to make some breakfast. I fried up some eggs and turkey dogs. For some reason the smoke alarm, which hasn’t gone off the whole time I’ve been here, decided to go off today. I had to rush to figure out how to shut it off and remove it before my cousin, who works long hours, woke up. I got it off no problem and continued with breakfast.

Once I was done devouring that meal I continued work on The Simpsons Wholly set. I worked pretty deligently on them and got to a point that I was really, really happy with. I can’t wait to show these off.

Randomly, as I was working, my cousin walked in the door. He hadn’t been home the whole time! Lol. I guess he got a haircut and went to the gym straight after work and shutting the smoke alarm off in such a hasty fashion wasn’t as necessary as I thought. Womp womp.

He headed off to bed and told me he’d be up by 3 to get our day going. He wanted to go to an outlet mall called Ontario Mills to get some gear for the Vegas trip he’s leaving on tomorrow.

He woke up pretty much at 3 on the dot and we both got ready to take off. I was starving by this point, so we made plans to go to Hooters for some wings and to possibly catch the Cavs and Magic game.

We headed out to Ontario Mills and went straight to the Polo outlet. Polo outlets always remind me of my dad coming home with baracuda jackets in all colours, golf shirts, rugbys and button downs. Me and my cousin have sort of made it a thing to go to the outlets to cop some gear. When we were young it was me, him and his brother boosting kicks from Nike and outerwear from Eddie Bauer outlets, now that we’ve got a little bit of change, we’re paying.

He copped some things, I copped some things, and by the time we left I was getting woozy from not having much food in my system. We booked it down to the nearest Hooters and got a seat right as the game started. He ordered fries, which he ate with that melty cheese, I ordered fried pickles, and we split 20 wings. After a handful of drinks we headed back to his house so both of us could pack before really getting some drinks down.

Once we were both packed and ready to go we headed out to a spot called Worthingtons that his homey Chris from Battle Monkeys recommended. He said that they play dope 90s Hip-Hop and that it would be poppin. So we went down to the spot.

When we started to make our way inside I could tell immediately that it would be empty. Sure enough we stepped in and there were about 7 people sprinkled inside including the dj and the bartender. It was a bar type setting, kinda like those Firkin spots. I didn’t give a fuck how many people were there, I was just tryina have a drink.

We sat down at the bar and I ordered a pint of something. My cousin ordered a Red Stripe, which changed my decision immediately. When the bartender brought them out they were fucking 24oz bottles. Lol. I felt like I was drinking a 40 at the bar. (Minus 16oz). We sat and talked a lot about a whole bunch of things ranging from relationships, to life philosophies, and from motivational speakers to getting into better shape through our diets. It was some good quality time that I was glad to spend with him after spending the month in his house and not really kicking it too too often.

Once we were done our huge Red Stripes we were trying to find another spot to go to. We ended up just chilling in the bar next door which had way cheaper drinks. We stuck around until last call before making our way home hungry as fuck.

My cousin suggested that we go by Jack in the Box, but considering our “No red meat, no fast food” diet, I was opposed. Instead, we went to the gas station and bought a 6 of Heineken. Lol.

When we got home I had a brilliant idea. I fried some sunnyside up eggs with some grated cheese and slopped them on top of 4 mini wholewheat honey bagels he had in his fridge. A little bit of salt and pepper and a wad of ketchup and we were stuffing our faaaaacceees. Lmao. Man, diets don’t mean much when you’re drunk, huh?

We cracked a beer open each and threw on Chappelle Season 2. By the 2nd scene I heard him laugh. 2 seconds later, I heard him snoring. Lol. I shut everything off and went to bed pretty faded.

For my last night in LA, I was pretty happy. It was far less about where we were than it was about who I was with and the way our time was spent. Tomorrow morning, my older cousins girl will be picking me up to spend my last night in California with them.

Aaaaand, I’m spent.
